KG 1: what your child can do.

Every "can do" from every KG 1 unit, in teaching order. Tick what you have seen your child do, more than once and without much help. Ticks match the ones on the unit pages.

This is not a test. Your child can read simple three-letter words by sounding out, writes their first name, and adds two small groups of objects. Children get there at different speeds; a gap just shows what to practise next.

Forming Letters

Writes their first name with only the first letter as a capital
Forms c, a, d, o and g starting at the top
Writes letters that mostly sit on the line

Draw and Label

Explains what their drawing means
Adds a letter for a sound in a chosen label
Says a short caption and helps an adult record it

Thinking & feelings

Patterns and Puzzles

Continues an ABC pattern
Makes their own repeating pattern and says its rule
Finishes a 12-piece jigsaw with little help

Sorting in Two Ways

Sorts a small collection using one consistent rule
Explains why an item belongs in a group
Sorts the same collection again using another rule with a prompt

Feelings and Friends

Names five feelings
Uses a calm-down strategy with a reminder
Takes turns and follows the rules in a simple game
