My Family and My Home

Goal: Describe the people who care for you, how you use spaces at home and how people help one another feel cared for.

For parents: Families and homes come in many forms. Use your child's own names for the people who care for them, including people living elsewhere. A space can have several uses. Let your child choose what to share.

Do together

  1. People who care for me

    You need: Paper and crayons

Draw your child in the middle of a page. Invite them to add people who care for them, such as Ammi, Abba, a grandparent or another carer. Ask about something they enjoy doing together. You can write the names they choose.

  2. One space, many uses

You need: Paper and a crayon

Together, look at a familiar space at home. Talk about what happens there: eating roti, reading, resting or playing. Draw two uses of the same space. Explain that other families may use their homes differently.

  3. A little help at home

You need: A cloth or a few socks

Tell a pretend story: Sara feels tired after tidying. Ask how someone could help her feel cared for. Choose one small job together, such as pairing socks or wiping a low, clear table with a dry cloth. Stay nearby and talk about how helping felt.

Talk about it

  • Who cares for you, and what do you enjoy doing together?
  • What do we do in this space at different times?
  • How might Sara feel when someone offers to help?
