Ways People Travel

Goal: Describe ways people travel on land, water and through the air, and name a helper who operates transport.

For parents: Use drawings and familiar journeys; no outing or vehicle is required. People may walk, use a wheelchair or travel in different vehicles. Choices depend on the place and the person. Discuss ordinary examples without ranking families or assuming everyone uses a car. Adults remain responsible for all real journeys.

Do together

  1. A journey we know

    You need: Paper and crayons

    Draw a familiar or invented journey. Include walking, using a wheelchair or riding in a bus or rickshaw, as appropriate. Ask how the person travels and where they want to go. Your child may describe a journey they have only heard about.

  2. Land, water and air

    You need: Paper and crayons

    Draw a road, railway, water and sky. Add a bus, train, boat and aeroplane in suitable places. Explain that trains travel on rails, boats travel on water and aeroplanes fly through air. Talk about where a rickshaw usually travels.

  3. Who helps the journey?

    You need: The drawings

    Add a driver beside the bus drawing and a pilot beside the aeroplane drawing. Explain their jobs without assuming their gender. Your child chooses one journey and tells who helps it happen. Pretend on paper; there is no need to board or touch transport.

  • Who flies the aeroplane?
