Weather and Seasons

Goal: Describe the weather, choose clothes for it, and notice hot and cold changes.

For parents: Look out of the window together every morning. Noticing the same thing every day is how scientists start.

Do together

  1. Weather chart

    You need: A paper chart with the days of the week

    Each morning, draw the weather: sun, cloud, rain, wind. At the end of the week, count: how many sunny days?

  2. Ice race

    You need: Ice cubes, small plates

    Put one ice cube in the sun, one in the shade and one in your hands. Which melts first? Why?

  3. Dress the teddy

    You need: A soft toy, some clothes

    Call out a weather: 'It's raining!' Your child chooses what the teddy should wear.

Talk about it

  • What is the weather like today?
  • What do we wear when it is cold?
  • Where does the ice go when it melts?
