Position Quest

Several copies of an object appear around a chair, box or bed. Your child hears a position word and taps the copy in that place. The task is to compare where the object sits relative to the larger prop, rather than choose a different kind of object.

What it practises

How the levels grow

  1. Seed Level 1
  2. Sprout Level 2
  3. Bloom Level 3
  4. Flourish Level 4
  5. Shine Level 5

Both age bands use the same position-word progression. Level 1 uses on and under. Level 2 adds beside. Level 3 uses on, under, beside and above. Level 4 uses on, under, beside, behind and in front of, leaving above out of that level's pool. Level 5 uses all six positions. The first two levels show two possible locations per round; levels 3–5 show three. Each session contains five rounds.

Ages 2–4 play on the Pre-Nursery path and ages 4–6 on the Kindergarten path. Good play climbs a level; a hard day holds it, and a level earned is never taken away.

What you might notice

  • Does your child use the chair, box or bed as a reference?
  • Which position words need a shared gesture?

Try it at home

Put a whole sock on an unbreakable cup, then beside it, on a low surface. Say where it is and invite your child to point or move it with you. Stay beside younger children and keep the cup within easy seated reach.
