The Musical Bus Stop

Goal: Act out waiting and travelling on a pretend bus, using quiet sound cues and position words.

For parents: Use a clear space at home for this pretend journey. Sit on the floor or a stable chair; no climbing or moving chairs while someone sits on them. An adult checks all props. Keep sounds gentle and instruments away from ears. No real roadside practice is needed.

  1. Where shall we wait?

    You need: A large sheet of paper with a simple bus drawn on it

    Put the picture against a wall at floor level. Pretend to wait beside it with your child. Choose where the pretend driver sits and where passengers will sit. Say 'beside' or 'behind' as you arrange yourselves. Your child can direct you while remaining seated.

  2. Choose the bus sounds

    You need: A whole sheet of sturdy paper and a large smooth wooden spoon

    Gently flex the paper to make a rustle. Compare it with the spoon softly touching a clear wooden tabletop. Choose one sound for a bus arriving and one for doors closing. Let your child listen and show which action the sound means. Keep paper out of mouths.

  3. A journey for Ali

    You need: The bus picture and sound makers

    Take turns as driver and passenger. Ali asks to go to the park. Use your arrival sound, invite the passenger to sit, then use the door sound before pretending to travel. At the park, say goodbye. Switch roles without moving furniture or rushing to a seat.
