Curiosity Lab · Temperature

Hot & Cold Lab

Your child sorts pictured things or chooses an answer about temperature, clothing or a shown change. Some scenes ask for a prediction before showing what happens. Later questions compare thermometer bars or arrange an ice-to-water sequence. All temperature work stays on screen, with no need to touch hot or cold objects.

Every game is free for every family until 20 November 2026. No card, no payment.

What it practises

  • Use hot, warm, cool and cold in pictured examples
  • Compare the heights of pictured thermometer bars
  • Order a shown change from ice to water

How the levels grow

  1. Seed Level 1
  2. Sprout Level 2
  3. Bloom Level 3
  4. Flourish Level 4
  5. Shine Level 5

Both age bands use the same content banks, and each level draws from its own bank. Level 1 includes hot/cold sorting, clothing choices and asking an adult around hot objects. Level 2 moves to warm/cool words, sunshine-and-shade comparisons and melting or cooling scenes. Level 3 includes thermometer comparisons, an ordered ice-to-water sequence, shade placement and freezing. Levels 4–5 reuse the level 3 bank. Levels 1–3 select five scenarios; levels 4–5 select six, so the longer sessions revisit the upper bank's topics.

Ages 2–4 play on the Pre-Nursery path and ages 4–6 on the Kindergarten path. Good play climbs a level; a hard day holds it, and a level earned is never taken away.

What you might notice

  • Does your child compare the bars rather than count marks?
  • Can they describe what changed in a pictured sequence?

Try it at home

Draw a steaming bowl and an ice cube on paper. Discuss the temperature words in the pictures, explaining that an adult handles hot food and objects. Invite your child to draw a coat or light clothing for a pretend character in suitable weather.

Not in this game: The game does not practise reading a numbered temperature scale in degrees.
