Pay and Change

A small pretend shop displays an item or pair of items with prices. Your child taps numbered coins into a payment tray and checks the amount. Later rounds ask how much change comes back from a larger payment. The pieces show values without copying any country's real coins.

How the levels grow

For ages 4–6, level 1 pays prices from one to five using pieces worth one. Level 2 pays one item's price from two to ten using mixed values. Level 3 combines two prices, with totals from six to twenty. Level 4 asks for change after buying one item; level 5 uses two items. Change rounds choose a larger payment of ten, twenty, fifty or one hundred as needed. Each level has five scenarios.

This game is on the Kindergarten path, for ages 4–6. Good play climbs a level; a hard day holds it, and a level earned is never taken away.

What you might notice

Does your child add values rather than count the coins?
Can they explain what the returned change represents?

Try it at home

Draw a pretend shop with a book priced at four. On the same sheet, draw pieces worth one and two and point to a way to pay. Discuss your country's money (for example, rupees), while explaining that these drawings are only pretend values.
