Do: Make a sign. Make a sign for the bedroom door ('Knock please!') or the kitchen ('Wash your hands'). Use a picture and a few words.

Do: Write news and a question. Write the news in one short sentence. Add the question on another line, with a question mark. Help with unfamiliar words and check a common word together. Add a sign-off and your child's name so the reader knows who wrote it.

Do: Time of the day. At every o'clock and half past today, stop and read the clock together. What are we doing at this time?

Do: Compare without ranking. Invent two families welcoming a relative. Sara's family shares a meal; Leo's family looks at drawings together. Find a similarity and a difference. Explain that either can be a welcome. Let your child suggest another way without choosing a best family.

Thinking & feelings
Do: Return with help. When your child wants to return, use the marker to find the next part. Finish together, reduce the job or leave it for another day. Discuss whether the marker helped. Keep the aim on finding a next step, not working for longer.

Moving & making
Do: Show an everyday action. Mime opening an imaginary book and looking at a page. Your child guesses the action, then chooses their own gesture. Keep hands away from faces and movements gentle. They may direct you instead. Discuss which movement gave the clearest clue.
