Reading & talking
Do: Sound of the week wall. Write the sound of the week (say 'ee') at the top. Every time you find an ee word in a book or on a sign, write it on the wall.
You need: A big sheet of paper
Talk: Which two letters make the 'ai' sound in 'rain'?

Writing & pencil control
Do: Choose the reader. Ask who might use a short message, such as Abba, a sibling or another carer. Choose a real small request. Say it aloud together, for example 'Please put my book on the table.' Help your child decide which object and place the reader needs to know.

Do: Sock pairs. Line up pairs and count in twos: 2, 4, 6, 8. How many socks altogether?

Do: Habitat boxes. Make a desert, an ocean, a forest and a snowy land. Your child places each animal and explains why it lives there.
You need: Four shoeboxes or areas of paper, animal pictures

Do: Secret helper. Each day your child secretly does one kind thing for someone in the family. At dinner, everyone guesses who helped them.

Moving & making
Do: Find each mark's partner. Point to a mark on one side and find its partner across the fold. Add a crayon mark and try drawing its matching partner on the other side. Fold to check their positions. Matching need not be exact; talk about what you notice rather than correcting the whole picture.
