Do: Sound of the day. Choose one sound each day. Say it at breakfast, find three things that start with it before lunch, and write the letter together in the evening.

Forming Letters
Week 4 of about 5

Do: Sky writing. Write a big letter in the air with a straight arm, saying how it moves: 'c — over the top and round'. Then write it small on paper.

Numbers to 20
Week 4 of about 4

Do: Number line hopscotch. Draw a line of boxes from 1 to 20. Call a number; your child jumps to it. 'Jump to the number after 14!'

My Family and My Home
Week 2 of about 2

Do: A little help at home. Tell a pretend story: Sara feels tired after tidying. Ask how someone could help her feel cared for. Choose one small job together, such as pairing socks or wiping a low, clear table with a dry cloth. Stay nearby and talk about how helping felt.

Sorting in Two Ways
Week 2 of about 2

Do: Find my rule. Start two groups without naming your rule. Offer your child another piece and ask where it belongs and why. Then swap roles. If a piece seems out of place, ask them to check it against the rule and move it if they wish.

Moving & making

Snip, Fold and Build
Week 1 of about 3

Do: Short snips or tears. Show how one hand holds the paper while the other makes a short snip at its edge. Stay beside your child and keep fingers away from the blades. Tear with two hands instead if preferred. Collect scraps as you work.

You need: Scrap paper; safety scissors only if available
