Reading & talking
Do: Robot talk. Talk like a robot: 'Get your h-a-t.' 'Sit on the m-a-t.' Your child works out the word. Then let them be the robot.

Do: Rainbow letters. Write one letter large. Your child traces over it in five different colours, starting at the dot each time.
You need: Paper, several crayons

Numbers & shapes
Do: A spoon for each cup. Put out three cups and four spoons. Ask your child to place one spoon beside each cup. Notice the spare spoon: there are more spoons and fewer cups. Change the groups, sometimes making them equal. Count to check.
You need: Up to five unbreakable cups and five large spoons

Do: Everyday or sometimes? Sort foods into two groups: everyday foods (fruit, vegetables, daal, roti, milk) and sometimes foods (sweets, crisps, fizzy drinks).
You need: Food packets and fruit from the kitchen

Do: Feelings cards. Draw faces for happy, sad, angry, scared, excited and worried. At bedtime, pick the card for how today felt and talk about why.

Moving & making
Do: Fold a roof. Help your child fold the paper in half and press the crease. Rest it on the box as a roof. Try a wider or narrower fold and see how it sits. Keep the model on the floor or table; it is not for standing on.
You need: A paper sheet and a small empty cardboard box
