Our week: KG 1, week 13
Dates: to · Try one activity on a day that suits you. Repeat or pause any part.
Reading & talking
Do: Pick a word. An adult writes hot, bug, red, fun and leg on separate large cards. Lay them face down. Your child chooses one, turns it over and tries reading it. Help with a sound if needed, then say the whole word together. Keep cards in use so every word gets another turn.
You need: Large paper cards and a pencil
Talk: Can you read this word? What does it mean?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Sound Hunt
Writing & pencil control
Do: Add our message. Write the chosen phrase together inside. Invite your child to form a familiar letter or word while you supply the rest. Add who it is from, sharing the name writing if needed. Point to the words and read them aloud.
You need: The folded paper and a crayon
Talk: What shall your card say?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Trace It
Numbers & shapes
Do: Hand spans. Measure the table with your hand spans, then with your child's. Why did they need more hands?
You need: Furniture
Talk: Which is longer, your arm or my arm?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Size Safari
Science & our world
Do: Dress the teddy. Call out a weather: 'It's raining!' Your child chooses what the teddy should wear.
You need: A soft toy, some clothes
Talk: What do we wear when it is cold?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Weather Watch
Thinking & feelings
Do: One next step. Recall a small changed plan, or invent one. Listen to your child, then offer two available choices, such as drawing together or looking at a book. Choose one together. Explain that doing something else does not mean the disappointment must disappear.
You need: Paper and crayons
Talk: What could we choose together now?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Feelings Friends
Moving & making
Do: Help the visitor feel welcome. Pretend the visitor feels worried about waiting. Ask what might help, such as explaining whose turn comes next or letting a carer stay beside them. Use your gentle cue to invite the toy forward. Swap roles and let your child show another possible feeling.
You need: The toy, role signs and sound makers
Talk: How can our calling sound stay gentle?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Helper Heroes
A possible rhythm: one or two strands a day, on the days that suit you. Swap days freely. Games are optional and never replace the home activity.
