Reading & talking
Do: Sound snap. Turn over a letter and a picture at the same time. If the picture starts with that sound, the first to shout 'snap!' wins the pair.
You need: Letter cards and picture cards

Writing & pencil control
Do: Choose our words. Fold paper together for a card. Ask who will receive it and what your child wants to say, such as hello to Eva or thanks to Abba. Say one short phrase. Your child chooses a picture that belongs with their message.

Numbers & shapes
Do: Our five picture. Draw a row of five large circles. Let your child colour some with one colour and the rest with another. Count each part and the whole row. Make another row with a different split. Keep both to compare.

Talk: If two spoons are here, how many are on the other plate?

Science & our world
Do: Weather chart. Each morning, draw the weather: sun, cloud, rain, wind. At the end of the week, count: how many sunny days?
You need: A paper chart with the days of the week
Talk: What is the weather like today?

Thinking & feelings
Do: One next step. Recall a small changed plan, or invent one. Listen to your child, then offer two available choices, such as drawing together or looking at a book. Choose one together. Explain that doing something else does not mean the disappointment must disappear.

Moving & making
Do: Who welcomes the visitor? Pretend the toy has arrived at a clinic. Choose who welcomes visitors and who is the doctor. Make a simple name sign for each role. Practise asking the toy's name and showing a comfortable waiting place. Let your child choose a different role on the next turn.
