Reading & talking
Do: Contents page hunt. Look at the contents page. Pick a topic, find its page number, and turn to it. Read one fact together.
You need: An information book about animals, space or the body
Talk: Where would you look to find out about teeth in this book?

Writing & pencil control
Do: Write for a reader. Help your child say a short instruction for each picture. Write together, beginning with an action word such as find, fold or put. Number the steps. Keep the pictures beside the writing so someone else can use both.
You need: The pictures, paper and a pencil

Numbers & shapes
Do: Count all, then count on. Make groups of five and three and count all eight squares. Put the groups back. This time say five for the first group, then touch the next squares while saying six, seven, eight. Ask what stayed the same and what changed about your method.

Do: Ball bounce test. Drop each ball from the same height. Which bounces highest? Measure and record. Why is it a fair test?
You need: Different balls, a tape measure or a wall to mark

Thinking & feelings
Do: Choose your reminder. Together plan a pretend picnic with a mat, mango and water. Your child chooses a spoken link or quick drawing to remember them. Later, recall the three things together and check. Ask what helped and what they would choose next time.

Moving & making
Do: Make a sound palette. A sound palette is the set of sounds you choose from. Rub the cloth, flex the paper and tap the cup gently with the spoon. Pick contrasting sounds for your two places. Can your partner say what changed: the material, the action or both?
You need: A cloth, stiff paper, a large spoon and an unbreakable cup
