Our week: Playgroup, week 5
Dates: to · Try one activity on a day that suits you. Repeat or pause any part.
Reading & talking
Do: My own photo book. Make a book with one photo per page: Ammi, Abba, Dadi, the cat. Look at it together and say each name.
You need: Family photos, paper, glue or a small album
Talk: Which page do you like best?
We noticed:
Game (optional): What's Missing?
Writing & pencil control
Do: Big scribbles. Make big up-and-down lines like rain, round and round like a wheel. Scribble to music: fast music, fast lines; slow music, slow lines.
You need: Chalk on the floor, or crayons on a big sheet of paper
Talk: Can you squeeze the dough really hard?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Trace It
Numbers & shapes
Do: Finger rhymes. 'Five Little Ducks' or 'One, Two, Buckle My Shoe' — hold up the right number of fingers as you sing, and let them copy.
You need: Your hands
Talk: How many eyes do you have? How many noses?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Counting Stars
Science & our world
Do: Who says that? Make an animal sound and let your child guess the animal. Then let them make the sound and you guess.
You need: Nothing, or animal toys or pictures
Talk: Which animal is the biggest? The smallest?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Living World
Thinking & feelings
Do: Tap and clap. Tap your knees, then clap gently. Repeat slowly while your child watches. Invite them to join in for one or two repeats. They may copy just one action first. Adapt the movements so both are comfortable.
You need: Nothing
Talk: Can you copy my tap and clap?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Pattern Parade
Moving & making
Do: A picture to rearrange. Arrange the pieces together on the sheet. A circle might be a sun or a face; your child can choose something else. Move a piece and notice how the picture changes. No glue or finished picture is needed.
You need: A sheet of paper and large circles and squares torn from paper by an adult
Talk: Where shall this circle go?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Shape Builder
A possible rhythm: one or two strands a day, on the days that suit you. Swap days freely. Games are optional and never replace the home activity.
