Reading & talking
Do: Teddy asks for a cup. Pretend teddy asks for a cup. Offer your child a turn to give teddy one or ask you for one. Reply to gestures as well as words. Keep the cups empty; this is a pretend drink.
You need: A large soft toy and two unbreakable cups
Talk: What would teddy like?

Writing & pencil control
Do: Big scribbles. Make big up-and-down lines like rain, round and round like a wheel. Scribble to music: fast music, fast lines; slow music, slow lines.
You need: Chalk on the floor, or crayons on a big sheet of paper
Talk: Can you squeeze the dough really hard?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Trace It
Numbers & shapes
Do: Two places for tea. Sit together at a low table. Put out the cups and ask your child to give each one a spoon. Touch the pairs together and say 'one spoon for each cup'. Repeat with three cups if they want to.
You need: Two unbreakable cups and two large spoons
Talk: Does every cup have a spoon?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Counting Stars
Science & our world
Do: Animal picture book. An adult draws a large simple animal on each page. Look together, name it and try its sound. Your child can add marks while you supervise. Keep loose scraps and broken crayons out of reach.
You need: Paper and a thick intact crayon used with an adult
Talk: Where does a fish live? A bird?
We noticed:

Thinking & feelings
Do: What comes with me? Start with spoon, sock, spoon. Offer the remaining sock and another large spoon and ask what could come next. If your child is unsure, point along the row and name it together. Stop after a few playful turns.
You need: The same spoons and socks

Game (optional): Pattern Parade
Moving & making
Do: Make, take apart, make again. Make a low row of boxes. Invite your child to add a large paper shape beside each one, then help take the arrangement apart. Ask which piece they would like to place first in a new build. Collect all paper afterwards.
You need: The checked boxes and paper pieces

A possible rhythm: one or two strands a day, on the days that suit you. Swap days freely. Games are optional and never replace the home activity.
Something we would like to repeat:
