Reading & talking

You need: A low basket, four or five books
Talk: What is the boy doing?
We noticed:
Game (optional): What's Missing?
Writing & pencil control
Do: Big scribbles. Make big up-and-down lines like rain, round and round like a wheel. Scribble to music: fast music, fast lines; slow music, slow lines.
You need: Chalk on the floor, or crayons on a big sheet of paper
Talk: Can you squeeze the dough really hard?

Game (optional): Trace It
Numbers & shapes
Do: Snack counting. Put out three pieces while your child sits at the table. Count them together, touching each one. Eat one: how many now? Cut grapes and cherry tomatoes lengthways into quarters, and stay with your child while they eat.
You need: A snack your child already eats safely
Talk: Can you give me one spoon? Now two?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Counting Stars
Science & our world
Do: Find the matching feel. Put out one towel and one cup. Offer another towel and ask which feels similar. Repeat with the cup. Describe the choice together: 'These feel soft.' Stay nearby and put everything away afterwards.
You need: Two whole towels and two smooth unbreakable cups
Talk: Does this feel soft or smooth?

Talk: Which piece would you like?
