Look at a Book
Week 1 of about 3

Do: Point and name. Ask 'Where is the dog?' and let your child point. Then point to something and wait for them to name it. Praise every try.

Writing & pencil control

Busy Fingers
Week 3 of about 3

Do: Big scribbles. Make big up-and-down lines like rain, round and round like a wheel. Scribble to music: fast music, fast lines; slow music, slow lines.

You need: Chalk on the floor, or crayons on a big sheet of paper

Talk: Can you squeeze the dough really hard?

Numbers & shapes

One, Two, Three
Week 1 of about 3

Do: Counting the stairs. Hold hands and count out loud on each step, going up slowly. Start with three steps and add more as they get it. If you have no stairs, count jumps on the spot instead.

Science & our world

Soft, Smooth and Bumpy
Week 1 of about 2

Do: Touch or look. Check that both are clean, intact and safe to handle. Offer each to your child. Say 'soft towel' and 'smooth cup'. They can touch with a hand, point or just watch you. Stop if they do not enjoy the feeling.

You need: A whole soft towel and a smooth unbreakable cup

Thinking & feelings

Same and Different
Week 1 of about 2

Do: Sock pairs. Mix up four or five pairs of socks. Your child finds each pair. Then hide one sock: which one has no partner?

You need: Clean socks

A possible rhythm: one strand a day, Monday to Friday, or fewer days. Swap days freely. Games are optional and never replace the home activity.
