One activity for each strand this week. Do them on the days that suit you, repeat any you enjoy, and skip what doesn't fit. Each strand moves through its own units at its own pace.

Stories and Puppets
Week 2 of about 3

Do: Spoon puppets. Draw a face for each character. Act out the story together, then let your child be the storyteller.

Marks with a Message
Revisit, or choose your next unit

Do: A place for my picture. Invite your child to draw something they enjoyed. Ask whether they would like to add a mark for their name. They may use a familiar letter, a line or another mark. Ask them to tell you about both the picture and their name mark.

Numbers & shapes

Shapes Around Us
Week 2 of about 2

Do: Shape picnic picture. Draw a pretend picnic with circular plates and triangular or square pieces of bread. Ask your child to point to and name each flat shape. They can draw more food shapes; no cutting or real food is needed.

You need: Paper and crayons

Staying Safe at Home
Week 2 of about 2

Do: Who can I tell? Name or draw two trusted adults your child knows. Pretend your child notices a dropped medicine packet in a drawing. Practise leaving it alone and telling an adult straight away. Explain that they can tell another trusted adult if they are not heard.

You need: Paper and a crayon

Thinking & feelings

I Can Do It Myself
Week 1 of about 3

Do: One dressing step. Choose a step together, such as pulling up loose trousers or pushing an arm through a sleeve. Start it if needed and let your child finish. Ask how it feels to try. They may point to a happy, sad or cross face you draw. Practise 'Please help me' when something is stuck. Skip fiddly fastenings for now.

You need: Your child's usual clothes

Moving & making

Beat, Pattern and Dance
Week 2 of about 2

Do: A dance for our pretend picnic. Pretend you are welcoming Ali and Sara to a picnic. Choose two movements, such as wave and sway. Repeat them to your own quiet hum. Let your child lead and choose when to finish. There are no required words or tune.

You need: A clear floor space
