Our week: KG 2, week 14
Dates: to · Try one activity on a day that suits you. Repeat or pause any part.
Reading & talking
Do: Choose, read and sort. Write car, jar, far, for, fork and corn on cards. Read each before placing it under 'ar' or 'or'. Ask which ar words rhyme. Explain that sharing the letters or does not make for and fork rhyme.
You need: Large paper word cards prepared by an adult
Talk: Do for and fork rhyme, or do their endings differ?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Rhyme Time
Writing & pencil control
Do: Use our menu. Offer the menu to someone at home. Ask them to choose a pretend dish. Your child marks the chosen line and reads its name with help. If the pretend dish changes, cross out that entry and write one replacement together.
You need: The menu and a pencil
Talk: Where shall we put the new choice?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Word Builder
Numbers & shapes
Do: Footsteps across the room. Walk heel-to-toe across the room and count your steps. Then an adult does it. Why are the numbers different?
You need: The room
Talk: What happens if we leave gaps between the blocks?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Size Safari
Science & our world
Do: A shared space. Draw a pretend park with a wrapper on the path and a plant beside it. Discuss what might help. Explain that an adult handles unknown rubbish, sharp items and dirty waste. Choose a safe job at home, such as putting your own clean scrap paper in its agreed place.
You need: Paper and crayons
Talk: When can we turn the tap off without missing a washing step?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Eco Helpers
Thinking & feelings
Do: Notice without guessing. Draw a person with tight hands. Ask what they might feel; several answers can fit. Invite your child to describe a body clue they notice, or stay with the drawing. Explain that we can ask how someone feels instead of deciding from their face.
You need: Paper and crayons
Talk: What might those tight hands tell us?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Feelings Friends
Moving & making
Do: Sound and service together. One person makes the opening sound while the other welcomes a customer. Practise asking for two drawn mangoes, finding them and packing them into a box. Give a spoken warning before the closing sound. Switch musician and shopkeeper roles so each person coordinates with the other's cue.
You need: The pretend shop and instruments
Talk: How do the cup and box sound different?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Five Senses
A possible rhythm: one or two strands a day, on the days that suit you. Swap days freely. Games are optional and never replace the home activity.
