Caring for Our Surroundings

Goal: Choose simple ways to save water, reuse safe materials and care for shared spaces.

For parents: Reuse means using something again. Choose small actions your family can manage. Local waste collection differs, so explain your own arrangements rather than expecting your child to know a universal bin colour.

Do together

  1. Another use

    You need: A clean, dry box and scrap paper

    Check the box for sharp staples yourself. Ask what else it could hold. Let your child turn it into a home for crayons or paper drawings. Talk about how using the same box again avoids needing another one.

  2. Water helper

    You need: A familiar handwashing place

    Supervise your child at the tap. Notice when water is useful and when it is running unused. Help them turn it off while lathering, then back on to rinse. An adult checks the water temperature; keep normal handwashing thorough.

  3. A shared space

    You need: Paper and crayons

    Draw a pretend park with a wrapper on the path and a plant beside it. Discuss what might help. Explain that an adult handles unknown rubbish, sharp items and dirty waste. Choose a safe job at home, such as putting your own clean scrap paper in its agreed place.

  • What else could we use this box for?
  • When can we turn the tap off without missing a washing step?
  • What should you do if you notice unknown rubbish outside?
