Our week: KG 1, week 19
Dates: to · Try one activity on a day that suits you. Repeat or pause any part.
Reading & talking
Do: Word detective. Pick one word, like 'the', and count how many times you find it on a page together.
You need: A picture book
Talk: Which letter in 'the' is tricky?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Sight Words
Writing & pencil control
Do: Write it for the reader. Write the short message together, perhaps "Books here". Help your child form their chosen letter or word while you write unfamiliar parts. Leave room between words. Read the sign aloud, then add the picture beside the writing.
You need: The paper and a crayon
Talk: Which letter would you like to write?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Trace It
Numbers & shapes
Do: Kitchen shape hunt. Explore the ball as a sphere, the box as a cuboid and the cup as a cylinder-shaped object. An adult can roll paper into a cone and hold it closed for comparison. Explain that real objects may only be like a mathematical shape.
You need: An intact ball, a cardboard box and an unbreakable straight-sided cup
Talk: Why does a ball roll?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Shape Detective
Science & our world
Do: A journey we know. Draw a familiar or invented journey. Include walking, using a wheelchair or riding in a bus or rickshaw, as appropriate. Ask how the person travels and where they want to go. Your child may describe a journey they have only heard about.
You need: Paper and crayons
Talk: How does this person travel?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Helper Heroes
Thinking & feelings
Do: Tell what helped. Draw or describe the step your child chose. Ask whether watching, company or trying helped. They may choose the same step another day, a different step or a pause. Explain that feeling unsure does not mean they did anything wrong.
You need: Paper and crayons
Talk: Would you like me beside you?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Feelings Friends
Moving & making
Do: A different view. Turn the cup so a different side faces your child. Ask what changed in the view. Make a second small drawing or point out the difference together. Keep both versions; each can record something noticed from its own position.
You need: The same cup and drawing materials
Talk: What looks different after we turn the cup?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Shapes & Colors
A possible rhythm: one or two strands a day, on the days that suit you. Swap days freely. Games are optional and never replace the home activity.
