Do: Poem of the week. Read it together every day. Clap its rhythm, find the rhyming words, and on Friday your child performs it for the family.

Do: Capital letter check. After writing, your child checks with the coloured pencil: a capital at the start, and capitals for names, places and days of the week.

Do: Word problem stories. Make up problems about your family: 'Ammi bought 25 eggs. We used 6. How many are left?' Draw it, then write the number sentence.

Science & our world
Do: Magnet test. Your child predicts whether each object will be attracted. The adult brings the magnet close while the child observes. Record the actual result; different metal spoons can behave differently. Keep the magnet away from mouths and younger children, and put it securely away immediately afterwards.
You need: A large intact magnet held by an adult, a large metal spoon, a wooden spoon and an unbreakable cup

Do: Lost and found. Label everything with your child's name. Practise opening their lunch box and bottle on their own.

Moving & making
Do: Choose a sound and movement. Choose a quiet repeated rhythm for one part, using hand taps on the bowl and pauses. Add a comfortable movement to show an event or feeling. Practise starting and finishing together using a visible hand signal.
You need: Your hands and an unbreakable empty bowl with a smooth rim

A possible rhythm: one or two strands a day, on the days that suit you. Swap days freely. Games are optional and never replace the home activity.
Something we would like to repeat:
