Reading & talking
Do: Real or made up? Compare a clearly made-up story with an information book. Read enough together to discuss each book's purpose. Explain that stories can also describe real events, so pictures or a cover alone do not prove whether something is invented.

Do: Time word ladder. Use the ladder to plan: say one sentence for each step before writing any of them.

Do: Bundle sums. Show 23 and 14 with bundles. Put the tens together and the ones together. How many altogether?

Science & our world
Do: Is it alive? Make two lists: living and not living. A tree, a stone, a cat, a car, a flower, a cloud. Talk about the hard ones.
You need: A walk outside, a notebook

Do: Lost and found. Label everything with your child's name. Practise opening their lunch box and bottle on their own.

Moving & making
Do: Beginning, change, ending. Draw three scenes for an original story: Sara starts a pretend garden, wind scatters her paper leaves, and a friend helps gather them. Your child may invent a different story. Decide what happens in each part and how the characters might feel.
