Reading & talking
Do: Word sums. Write sums of sounds: s + t + or + m = ? f + l + ow + er = ? Your child reads each part, then the whole word, and writes the answer.

Do: Three-line paper. Sort lower-case letters into tall letters, short letters and letters with tails below the line. Try a few from each group, checking where they touch the lines.

Do: Straw bundles. Count out sticks and band every ten together. Show 35: three bundles and five loose. Now show 53. What changed?

Do: Is it alive? Make two lists: living and not living. A tree, a stone, a cat, a car, a flower, a cloud. Talk about the hard ones.

Do: Lost and found. Label everything with your child's name. Practise opening their lunch box and bottle on their own.

Talk: What will you do if you lose something at school?

Moving & making
Do: Sketch an idea. Invite your child to plan a reading corner for a pretend toy or an invented building. Sketch the main shapes and choose which boxes might work. Ask how a folded piece could make a seat or roof. Keep the plan simple enough to try today.
