Do: Find the answer. Ask a question and let your child find the sentence that answers it, pointing with a finger.

Do: Give one reason. Ask which moment or feature explains their opinion. Write one short reason together, using a word such as because if helpful. Sound out a familiar word and help with the rest. Check the reason matches what your child thinks.

Do: Fold and compare. Fold a paper square into two equal parts, then fold again to make four equal parts. Open it and colour one quarter. Compare the equal sections. Try a different first fold on another square.
You need: Paper squares and crayons
Talk: Are these two parts equal? Is it a half?

Science & our world
Do: Our pretend crossing. Stand together beside the pretend road. Practise holding your hand, stopping back from the edge, looking all around and listening. Explain that you decide when it is safe and cross together while still looking. A signal or crossing does not replace checking for traffic.
You need: Paper to mark a road on a clear floor
Talk: What do we do before crossing a road together?

Thinking & feelings
Do: Return with help. When your child wants to return, use the marker to find the next part. Finish together, reduce the job or leave it for another day. Discuss whether the marker helped. Keep the aim on finding a next step, not working for longer.

Moving & making
Do: Make the first two folds. Lay the sheet flat with a long edge nearest you. Fold a wide strip inward from one short edge and press it flat. Turn the sheet over. Fold that same edge back by a similar width. Help one hand hold while the other presses.
You need: A rectangular sheet of scrap paper
Talk: Which hand could keep the paper still?
