A Review to Help Someone

Goal: Write a short opinion with a reason, using familiar words to help someone choose a story or game.

For parents: A review tells someone what you think and why. Choose a story or game your family already knows. Two short sentences are enough. Different opinions can both make sense. Help with spellings and common words while keeping your child's own view.

Do together

  1. Say what you think

    You need: Paper and a pencil

    Choose a familiar story or family game. Ask what your child liked or would change. Help them write one short sentence giving their opinion. Name the story or game so another person knows which one they mean.

  2. Give one reason

    You need: The review and a pencil

    Ask which moment or feature explains their opinion. Write one short reason together, using a word such as because if helpful. Sound out a familiar word and help with the rest. Check the reason matches what your child thinks.

  3. Help a reader choose

    You need: The finished review

    Share the review with someone deciding what to read or play at home. Let your child read it aloud with help. Ask what the reader now knows. Explain that the reader may choose differently; the review has still shared a useful view.
