Our week: Ready for Class 1, week 17
Dates: to · Try one activity on a day that suits you. Repeat or pause any part.
Reading & talking
Do: Why? Why? Why? Ask 'Why did the character do that?' The answer is not always written — your child must think. Accept any answer they can explain.
You need: A story
Talk: What question would you ask the author?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Listen & Remember
Writing & pencil control
Do: One change to my writing. Read the piece aloud together. Ask your child to choose one place where a person, object or action could be clearer. Add or replace a word, writing it yourself if needed. Read both versions and talk about what the reader now knows.
You need: A short piece your child has written or dictated
Talk: Does this event happen before or after that one?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Story Steps
Numbers & shapes
Do: Circle the groups. Circle groups of 2. How many groups? Now circle groups of 3 on a fresh copy. Same number of stars, different groups.
You need: Paper with drawings of 12 stars or birds
Talk: How many groups of 5 make 20?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Share and Group
Science & our world
Do: Near and far. Your child closes their eyes while you ring the bell near, then far away. Can they point to where the sound is and say near or far?
You need: A bell or shaker, some space outside
Talk: Why do sounds get quieter when you walk away?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Listen & Remember
Thinking & feelings
Do: Tell what changed. Draw before and after pictures of your pretend mishap. Your child describes what happened, who was affected and the repair they offered. Explain that someone may still feel upset after a repair. Choose where to place the cups safely next time.
You need: Paper and crayons
Talk: Could someone still feel upset after we help?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Feelings Friends
Moving & making
Do: Direct two sounds together. Point to one sign to invite its musician to play. Show both signs to combine two gentle sounds while you speak a helper's line. Lower a sign to stop that part. Swap director and performer. Discuss whether quieter playing helped the words remain clear.
You need: The place signs and sound makers
Talk: How can our musicians leave room for the spoken words?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Helper Heroes
