Sound and Hearing
Goal: Identify sounds, compare loud and quiet, near and far, and make musical sounds.
For parents: Sounds are made when something vibrates. Let your child feel it: a hand on the throat while humming, a ruler twanging on the table.
Do together

Musical bottles
You need: Four or five glass bottles, waterFill each with a different amount of water. Tap them gently with a spoon. Order them from low sound to high sound. Play a tune!

Near and far
You need: A bell or shaker, some space outsideYour child closes their eyes while you ring the bell near, then far away. Can they point to where the sound is and say near or far?

Sound map
You need: Paper, pencilSit outside for two minutes. Draw yourself in the middle and every sound you hear around you, placing loud ones closer.

- Which bottle makes the highest sound?
- Why do sounds get quieter when you walk away?
- How do we protect our ears from very loud sounds?
