Sound Hunt
Your child hears a sound clue and chooses between pictured words. Later rounds can show printed words without pictures, asking for one that sounds like the spoken target. The prompts use familiar words as sound examples. Your child taps a choice while you listen together to the part being compared.
Every game is free for every family until 20 November 2026. No card, no payment.
What it practises
- Identify ending sounds and matching middle vowels
- Distinguish short and long vowel examples
- Recognise sh, ch, th and ng in word examples
- Compare printed words differing in one letter
How the levels grow
- Seed Level 1
- Sprout Level 2
- Bloom Level 3
- Flourish Level 4
- Shine Level 5
For ages 4–6, level 1 focuses on ending sounds. Level 2 keeps two ending rounds and adds three middle-vowel rounds. Level 3 begins with a middle-vowel review, then contrasts short and long vowels. Level 4 reviews vowels before practising sh, ch, th and ng. Level 5 reviews one of those letter groups, then compares similar printed words. Later levels retain earlier practice within each five-round session rather than replacing every previous task.
This game is on the Kindergarten path, for ages 4–6. Good play climbs a level; a hard day holds it, and a level earned is never taken away.
What you might notice
- Does your child listen to the requested part of the word?
- In printed choices, do they notice the letter that differs?
Try it at home
Say cat and hat together, stretching only sounds that feel natural. Listen for their matching ending. Then say cat and cup and listen to the middle. Keep your family's accent and offer the comparison yourself if your child prefers to listen.
Not in this game: The game does not cover every English sound, spelling pattern or pronunciation.
