Rhyme and Rhythm
Week 1 of about 3

Do: Clap your name. Clap the beats in names: Sa-ra (2), Mu-ham-mad (3), Ali (2 — A-li). Then clap foods: ba-na-na, ap-ple, rice.

Writing & pencil control

Pencil Play
Week 4 of about 4

Do: Finger paths. Trace a drawn line with a finger, then try it with an intact thick crayon while an adult stays nearby. Try a circle or zigzag next. Your child can choose the path and stop when their hand is tired.

You need: Paper with large lines and curves drawn by an adult

Talk: Can you draw a line from the top to the bottom?

Numbers & shapes

Numbers to Ten
Week 4 of about 4

Do: One space for each. Choose a number from one to five at first. Help your child place one square in each space until they reach that number. Count by touching each square once. Later use numbers up to ten. Put the squares away when finished.

You need: Paper with ten large spaces and ten large paper squares prepared by an adult

Animals and Their Homes
Week 2 of about 2

Do: Who eats what? Match each animal to its food. A cow eats grass, a cat likes fish, a hen pecks seeds.

You need: Pictures of animals and foods (grass, bone, fish, seeds)

Do: Two-step errands. Give two-part jobs: 'Get your shoes and put them by the door.' When that is easy, try three parts.

Moving & making

Tear, Fold and Arrange
Week 1 of about 3

Do: Two hands, one tear. Make a small starter tear yourself. Show your child how to hold the paper on either side and pull gently in different directions. Save the larger pieces. Let your child point out a shape they notice, without requiring it to be a perfect circle or square.

You need: Scrap paper
