Reading & talking
Do: Rhyme basket. Take one out and ask, 'What rhymes with cat?' Let them find its partner. Then add one that does not rhyme and see if they spot it.
You need: Pairs of rhyming objects or pictures: cat/hat, pen/hen, bed/red, sock/clock

Do: A list for pretend shopping. Pretend you need roti, mango and daal. Invite your child to make a list using pictures or marks. Let them tell you what each mark means. Use their list as you pretend to collect the food.

Numbers & shapes
Do: What do you notice? Lay out one or two spoons. Ask how many your child thinks there are. Touch each spoon together to check. Try three only when they want more. Notice a direct answer without insisting that they avoid counting.

Do: Weather window. Every morning, look outside and put a tick on today's weather. At the end of the week, which weather did we have most?
You need: A window, a small chart with sun, cloud and rain pictures

Do: Going shopping. Play 'I went to the shop and bought an apple.' Your child repeats it and adds one thing. How long can the list get?

Moving & making
Do: Fold a standing picture. Help your child bring two edges of a sheet together and press the fold. Open it a little so it stands low on the table. Add broad marks to make a tent, a shop or an invented place. Hold the paper while your child presses if that helps.
