Our week: Nursery, week 11
Dates: to · Try one activity on a day that suits you. Repeat or pause any part.
Reading & talking
Do: Sound bag. Take out one object and say its name clearly. Listen for the first sound: s in spoon, p in pen, t in towel. You can stretch s ('ssspoon'), but keep p and t short, without adding an extra 'uh'. Make a group for each of the three sounds.
You need: A bag, objects that start with s, p or t (spoon, sock, pen, pot, toy, towel)
Talk: Does 'sun' start with sss or mmm?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Letter Pop
Writing & pencil control
Do: A place for my picture. Invite your child to draw something they enjoyed. Ask whether they would like to add a mark for their name. They may use a familiar letter, a line or another mark. Ask them to tell you about both the picture and their name mark.
You need: Paper and crayons
Talk: Who is your message for?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Trace It
Numbers & shapes
Do: Fill and empty. Stay within reach throughout. Put the bowl on a stable low surface. Help your child fill the cup, then empty it into the bowl. Say full and empty as they watch. Wipe spills promptly and empty all water when finished.
You need: An unbreakable cup, a shallow bowl and a little water
Talk: Is there anything in this cup?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Size Safari
Science & our world
Do: Who can I tell? Name or draw two trusted adults your child knows. Pretend your child notices a dropped medicine packet in a drawing. Practise leaving it alone and telling an adult straight away. Explain that they can tell another trusted adult if they are not heard.
You need: Paper and a crayon
Talk: Who can help with sharp tools or medicines?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Hot & Cold Lab
Thinking & feelings
Do: One cup, two visitors. Pretend Ali and Sara both want the cup. Ask how each might feel and why. Accept different possibilities. Say that you can help find a way for both visitors to take part.
You need: Two large soft toys and an empty unbreakable cup
Talk: How might Sara feel, and what happened?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Feelings Friends
Moving & making
Do: Draw a line with your movement. Outside, draw an imaginary straight line in the air with your arm, then a curve. Let your child copy and lead. If comfortable, take a few steps along an imagined straight or curved line beside each other. Seated arm movements explore the same shapes; no objects need collecting.
You need: A safe outdoor space
Talk: Which line shall we make outside?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Trace It
A possible rhythm: one or two strands a day, on the days that suit you. Swap days freely. Games are optional and never replace the home activity.
