Our week: KG 2, week 24
Dates: to · Try one activity on a day that suits you. Repeat or pause any part.
Reading & talking
Do: Change the last sound. Write map in large letters. Say its three sounds together and blend them into map. Write mat below it. Ask which letter changed, say the new last sound and read mat. Point to a map and a mat, or draw them, to show that the meaning changed too.
You need: Paper and a pencil
Talk: Which sound changed in map and mat?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Sound Hunt
Writing & pencil control
Do: Plan a room from above. Draw a large rectangle for a pretend room. Mark a doorway, a mat and a box with simple shapes. Talk about looking down in imagination. Your child decides where the box sits beside the mat and leaves room for labels.
You need: Paper and a pencil
Talk: Where will the box sit beside the mat?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Trace It
Numbers & shapes
Do: Build a shape picture. Invite your child to draw a pretend bus or house from flat shapes. Ask them to describe two shapes by their sides and corners. Show that a square is a special rectangle with four equal sides; other rectangles can have two longer and two shorter sides.
You need: Paper and crayons
Talk: How are this square and this long rectangle alike?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Shape Detective
Science & our world
Do: Watch without collecting. An adult chooses a safe place to watch a visible small creature without approaching it. Notice where it is and one movement. If none appears, record that honestly or discuss an adult's drawing. Nothing needs collecting, and there is no need to identify a species.
You need: Paper and a pencil
Talk: What could you actually see?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Eco Helpers
Thinking & feelings
Do: Pictures give some clues. Draw three stars and a moon. Ask your child to point to every star and check together. Then say, "Someone drew this at night." Can the picture tell us that? Explain that a moon drawing could be made at any time.
You need: Paper and crayons
Talk: Which part is still a guess?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Focus Farm
Moving & making
Do: A tall giraffe idea. Keep both feet supported. Raise one hand a comfortable amount to suggest a giraffe's neck, then lower it. If comfortable, notice when the hand is above the shoulder. Breathe normally. Seated play works equally well; never stretch higher to match someone else.
You need: The same clear space
Talk: Which shape feels comfortable?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Position Quest
A possible rhythm: one or two strands a day, on the days that suit you. Swap days freely. Games are optional and never replace the home activity.
