Reading & talking
Do: Change the first sound. Write mat and read it together. Write sat underneath, pointing out the new first letter. Sound out and read sat. Say a short sentence such as Sara sat on the mat. Try sit and hit another day, helping with any unfamiliar sound.
You need: Paper and a pencil

Writing & pencil control
Do: Write the place names. Say mat and box together. Your child writes familiar sounds in each label while you help with the rest. Put each word close to its shape. Read both labels, checking that the reader can tell which object each names.
You need: The map and a pencil

Game (optional): Trace It
Numbers & shapes
Do: Sort and mark. Sort teaspoons and tablespoons into two groups. Draw a spoon of each type as a heading. Move each spoon aside as your child adds one tally under its heading. Count the marks and compare with the real groups.
You need: Six large spoons of two types, paper and a pencil
Talk: How can we make sure each spoon has just one mark?

Science & our world
Do: Draw only what we noticed. Draw a detail you could see, such as a shell or legs. If a part was hidden, say you could not see it. With a drawing instead, describe its visible features. Explain that an ant, spider and snail are different kinds of small animal.
You need: Paper and crayons

Thinking & feelings
Do: Choose a useful check. Ask your child to look away while you put the sock under one cup. Let them guess where it is, then choose a cup to lift. Say what you now know from looking. Swap roles; a changed answer shows new information.
You need: Two unbreakable cups and a whole sock

Moving & making
Do: A flamingo choice. Offer your hand while your child briefly lightens one foot or lifts it a little, then returns to two steady feet. Seated players can lift and lower one hand instead. Choose a favourite animal shape and describe where the hands are.
You need: A clear space and an adult's offered hand
Talk: Would you like support or a seated version?

A possible rhythm: one or two strands a day, on the days that suit you. Swap days freely. Games are optional and never replace the home activity.
