Do: Quiet sh, loud ch. Call words; your child puts a finger on their lips for sh words and pretends to be a train for ch words. Ship! Chin! Shell! Chop!

Writing a Sentence
Week 2 of about 5

Do: Caption the photo. Your child writes one sentence under it: 'We went to the park.'

You need: A family photo or a drawing

Number Bonds to 10

Do: Hide and count. Count ten paper squares together. Hide some under the bowl and leave the others visible. Ask how many are hidden. Let your child lift the bowl to check, then try a different split. Begin with five altogether if ten is too much.

You need: Ten large paper squares and an unbreakable bowl

Do: Drop test. Drop them from the same height at the same time. Which lands first? What pulls them down?

You need: A ball, a feather or tissue, a spoon

Puzzles and Logic
Week 2 of about 3

Do: Build a picture. Use a few triangles, squares and rectangles to make a house, boat or an invented picture. Turn and move the pieces to try different arrangements. Ask your child to explain one choice. This does not need a standard tangram set.

You need: Large paper shapes prepared by an adult

Talk: What will you try next if that doesn't work?
