Healthy Me

Goal: Explain what keeps our bodies healthy: food, water, exercise, sleep and keeping clean.

For parents: Children at this age can start to link actions with results: 'After running my heart beats fast.' Let them notice it in their own bodies.

Do together

  1. Heartbeat test

You need: A minute of jumping

Put a hand on your chest. Feel your heartbeat. Jump for a minute and feel again. What changed?

  2. My healthy day chart

You need: Paper with five columns: water, fruit, play, sleep, wash

Tick each one when it is done. Try to fill the chart every day for a week.

  3. Germ glitter

You need: A little glitter or flour, soap and water

Pretend the glitter is germs on your hands. Shake hands and see how it spreads. Wash with just water, then with soap. Which works?

Talk about it

  • Why do we need to sleep?
  • What happens to your body when you run?
  • Why is soap better than water alone?
