Weave and Build with Paper

🏠 Do together

1. Over, under, over

   You need: Three wide paper strips and one strip of a different colour or marked with crayon

   Lay three strips side by side and hold their ends steady. Help your child pass the fourth strip over the first, under the second and over the third. Say the repeating rule together. Let one hand lift while the other guides.

2. Add the next row

   You need: The same strips and another wide paper strip

   Add a second crossing strip beside the first. Begin under the first base strip, then over, then under. Slide the rows close together gently while you hold the base pieces. Notice how changing the starting position changes the visible pattern.

3. A roof or a mat

   You need: The woven paper and a small checked cardboard box

   Use the weave as a pretend picnic mat, or lay it across a small box as a roof. If it slips apart, help move the strips back and decide where you need to hold them. Describe the shapes and pattern. It is a model, not something to sit or stand on.
