Our week: KG 2, week 28
Dates: to · Try one activity on a day that suits you. Repeat or pause any part.
Reading & talking
Do: Sentence strips. An adult writes a short sentence such as 'She was in the car' on separate large word cards. Read it together, mix the cards and help your child rebuild it. Add a full stop to the final word and reread the sentence.
You need: Card strips
Talk: Can you find 'they' on this page?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Sight Words
Writing & pencil control
Do: Put speech in its bubble. Draw one roomy bubble in each box, with its tail towards the speaker. Write the chosen lines together, sharing unfamiliar spellings. Help add a question mark or full stop where needed. Read a common word such as can or you in the writing.
You need: The pictures and a pencil
Talk: Where should this bubble's tail point?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Sight Words
Numbers & shapes
Do: Our colour count. Agree the colour groups before sorting. Draw a heading for each, then record the socks with tallies. Count each group and write its total with help. Ask which has more, fewer or the same. Keep a place for a group with none.
You need: Up to ten socks in two or three colour groups, paper and crayons
Talk: What does this bundle of tally marks show?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Sort It Out
Science & our world
Do: Leave a place for feeding. Draw bees visiting flowers. Explain that bees get food from flowers. Ask what would happen if someone picked every flower there. Draw a caring choice: leave flowers growing and watch from a distance. Do not put out food or try to attract bees.
You need: Paper and crayons
Talk: Why could leaving flowers help bees?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Eco Helpers
Thinking & feelings
Do: Choose a useful check. Ask your child to look away while you put the sock under one cup. Let them guess where it is, then choose a cup to lift. Say what you now know from looking. Swap roles; a changed answer shows new information.
You need: Two unbreakable cups and a whole sock
Talk: How could we check that idea?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Focus Farm
Moving & making
Do: A flamingo choice. Offer your hand while your child briefly lightens one foot or lifts it a little, then returns to two steady feet. Seated players can lift and lower one hand instead. Choose a favourite animal shape and describe where the hands are.
You need: A clear space and an adult's offered hand
Talk: Would you like support or a seated version?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Position Quest
A possible rhythm: one or two strands a day, on the days that suit you. Swap days freely. Games are optional and never replace the home activity.
