Our week: KG 1, week 10
Dates: to · Try one activity on a day that suits you. Repeat or pause any part.
Reading & talking
Do: Pick a word. An adult writes hot, bug, red, fun and leg on separate large cards. Lay them face down. Your child chooses one, turns it over and tries reading it. Help with a sound if needed, then say the whole word together. Keep cards in use so every word gets another turn.
You need: Large paper cards and a pencil
Talk: Can you read this word? What does it mean?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Sound Hunt
Writing & pencil control
Do: Tell me about your drawing. Invite your child to draw a favourite moment, such as Ali on a mat. Ask what they want the picture to say. Write their short caption as they watch. They can add a word or a letter they know. Read it back together, pointing to the words.
You need: Paper and crayons
Talk: What would you like me to write about your picture?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Trace It
Numbers & shapes
Do: Story sums. Tell a story: '4 cars are parked. 2 more come. How many now?' Your child acts it out and counts all.
You need: Toy cars, dolls or fruit
Talk: How many altogether?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Add & Take Away
Science & our world
Do: Mother and baby match. Match them: hen and chick, cow and calf, dog and puppy, cat and kitten, sheep and lamb.
You need: Pictures of animals and their babies
Talk: What is a baby cow called?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Living World
Thinking & feelings
Do: A page of kind moments. Draw or describe one kind thing someone did today. Ask how it may have felt to give or receive that help. Let your child add a mark or picture. Keep it as a shared memory, without counting kind acts for a prize.
You need: Paper and a crayon
Talk: What helps you feel calm?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Feelings Friends
Moving & making
Do: Keep the border going. Make a border with a ring, two ovals, then another ring and two ovals. Say the repeating group together. Invite your child to continue it. If a mark overlaps, keep going or make it part of a new idea. Let painted work dry before using it.
You need: The tools, paper and optional paint or crayons
Talk: Which group repeats in your border?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Pattern Parade
A possible rhythm: one or two strands a day, on the days that suit you. Swap days freely. Games are optional and never replace the home activity.
