Write an Invitation

Goal: Write a short invitation that tells a reader what will happen, where and when.

For parents: Invite someone at home to a small shared activity, such as looking at drawings. Agree the plan with an adult first. Two short sentences can hold the details. Share unfamiliar spellings and check useful common words together; a picture can help but need not replace essential details.

Do together

  1. Give the useful details

    You need: Paper and a pencil

    Plan a small display of drawings for someone at home. Agree where and when, perhaps at the table after lunch today. Your child writes one or two sentences inviting the reader. Help include the activity, place and time without adding a long story.

  2. Check the common words

    You need: The invitation and a pencil

    Read the invitation together. Choose one common word your child used, such as the or you. Help them check its spelling. Then let the intended reader find the activity, place and time. Add a missing detail only if needed.

  3. Send an update

    You need: Scrap paper and a pencil

    If your plan changes, write one short update telling the reader the new place or time. If it stays the same, write a welcome sign for the display instead. Give or show the writing to the person who will use it.

  • What does our guest need to know?
  • Can they find the place and time?
  • Which words tell them about our change?
