Our week: KG 2, week 21
Dates: to · Try one activity on a day that suits you. Repeat or pause any part.
Reading & talking
Do: Word family houses. Write words in the windows of each house: cat, hat, mat, sat. How many can your child add?
You need: Paper houses, each with a family written on the roof (-at, -ig, -op)
Talk: What do 'hop', 'top' and 'mop' have in common?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Rhyme Time
Writing & pencil control
Do: Look before writing. Look at one cup together. Say two things you can check by looking, such as its colour and whether it has a handle. Choose a short heading for the page. Your child writes familiar words while you help with unfamiliar ones.
You need: An unbreakable cup, paper and a pencil
Talk: What can we check by looking?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Sight Words
Numbers & shapes
Do: Piggy bank count. Once a week, count what is inside. Count the 1s first, then add the 2s and 5s.
You need: A money box
Talk: Do you have enough to buy this?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Pay and Change
Science & our world
Do: A shared space. Draw a pretend park with a wrapper on the path and a plant beside it. Discuss what might help. Explain that an adult handles unknown rubbish, sharp items and dirty waste. Choose a safe job at home, such as putting your own clean scrap paper in its agreed place.
You need: Paper and crayons
Talk: When can we turn the tap off without missing a washing step?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Eco Helpers
Thinking & feelings
Do: Choose an ending. Draw three choices: put the game away together, take a pause or play again if both agree. After a pretend or real round, choose an ending. Model "Thanks for playing" without requiring your child to repeat it or hide disappointment.
You need: Paper and crayons
Talk: Which ending would work for both of us?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Feelings Friends
Moving & making
Do: Sound and service together. One person makes the opening sound while the other welcomes a customer. Practise asking for two drawn mangoes, finding them and packing them into a box. Give a spoken warning before the closing sound. Switch musician and shopkeeper roles so each person coordinates with the other's cue.
You need: The pretend shop and instruments
Talk: How do the cup and box sound different?
We noticed:
Game (optional): Five Senses
A possible rhythm: one or two strands a day, on the days that suit you. Swap days freely. Games are optional and never replace the home activity.
