A No-Cook Recipe Card
Goal: Write a short recipe card with ingredients, amounts and ordered steps, then check that a reader can use it.
Do together
-
List what the reader needs
You need: Paper and a pencilAgree a familiar snack, such as mashed banana with plain yoghurt if suitable for your family. Write a title and an ingredients list together. Include manageable amounts, such as one banana and two spoonfuls of yoghurt. Draw the ingredients instead if preferred.
-
Write three useful steps
You need: The card and a pencilSay three actions in order, then write them together: put the prepared banana in a bowl, mash it with a fork, stir in yoghurt. Share spelling, leaving spaces between words. Number the steps and state that any cutting is an adult's job.
-
Let the card guide us
You need: The card; optional prepared ingredients, unbreakable bowl, spoon and forkWith an adult beside your child, read each step and prepare the chosen snack, or act it out using drawings. Check the ingredients and amounts before starting. Ask the reader whether any detail is missing, then improve one part together. Tasting is optional.
Talk about it
- What amount does our reader need?
- Which step should come first?
- What could we add to make this clearer?
