Where Did Our Toy Go?

Goal: Notice a toy being hidden nearby and use looking or remembering to find it again.

For parents: Use one large soft toy with no loose parts and one small whole hand towel. Keep everything within easy seated reach and stay beside your child. Hide only the toy, never a person, and keep cloth away from faces. Partly visible hiding and immediate reveals are welcome; stop if it is upsetting.

Do together

  1. A little bit still showing

    You need: A large soft toy and a hand towel

    Let your child watch you cover part of the toy, leaving its head visible. Ask where it is, then lift the towel together. Name the toy. Repeat only if enjoyable; your child may point, reach, say a word or simply watch.

  2. Watch it hide

    You need: The same toy and towel

    With your child watching, cover the whole toy briefly in the same place. Invite them to find it and help uncover it immediately. Do not move it secretly. Talk about what was there before the towel covered it.

  3. You hide it for me

    You need: The same toy and towel

    Offer your child a turn to cover the toy while you watch. Ask them to show you where it is, then reveal it together. Keep the towel on the toy only. Finish by putting both away; no longer wait or harder hiding place is needed.
