1. Set up the counter

   You need: Two checked empty boxes, paper and crayons

   Pretend to open a fruit shop. Draw mangoes and bananas as the stock. Decide who serves and who buys. Practise placing an item beside its picture label, offering it with two hands and explaining what the shopkeeper does. Swap roles without needing prices or payment.

2. Listen to the material

   You need: A large wooden spoon, a smooth unbreakable cup and a checked empty cardboard box

   Touch the cup softly with the spoon, then the box. Compare the sounds. Ask which sense helps us notice them: hearing. Choose one sound for opening and one for closing. Let your child demonstrate how the same gentle action sounds different on the two materials.

3. Sound and service together

   You need: The pretend shop and instruments

   One person makes the opening sound while the other welcomes a customer. Practise asking for two drawn mangoes, finding them and packing them into a box. Give a spoken warning before the closing sound. Switch musician and shopkeeper roles so each person coordinates with the other's cue.
