Questions for Someone

Goal: Write one or two short questions using familiar words, then use them in a real conversation.

For parents: Choose a willing person at home and a topic they are happy to discuss. Your child can dictate harder words. A question mark shows that the sentence asks something. Say each question first, then help with spaces and punctuation. The reader can help read it back.

Do together

  1. What shall we ask?

You need: Paper and a pencil

Ask your child what they would like to know about Ammi's favourite game or Leo's favourite fruit. Choose one short question together. Say it aloud, then write it, sharing unfamiliar words. Add a question mark at the end.

  2. Leave room for an answer

You need: The question page and crayons

Read the question together. Your child adds a small empty box underneath for an answer picture. If they want another question, help them write one on a new line. Keep both questions short enough to say comfortably.

  3. Use the question page

You need: The page and a pencil

Invite the willing reader to sit with you. Your child reads or asks the question with help, then listens. Record one answer word or a quick picture in the box. Read it back together to check you heard the answer.
