Choose with Two Clues

Goal: Choose something that fits two clues together and explain the choice.

For parents: A thing can fit one clue without fitting both. Say each clue again as needed and let your child point while explaining. Accept a different answer if it fits both clues. Use a few large drawings so the choice stays manageable.

Do together

  1. Both clues matter

    You need: Paper and crayons

    Draw a red cup, blue cup, red sock and blue sock. Ask for something red that is also a cup. Your child points and explains. Check each clue separately. Then let your child give you two clues.

  2. A place for both

    You need: Paper and crayons

    Draw two large overlapping loops. Label one red and one cups. Add small drawings directly inside: a red sock, blue cup and red cup. Discuss why the red cup belongs in the shared space. Your child chooses another drawing to add.

  3. Choose for a job

    You need: Two large unbreakable cups and a folded cloth

    Put a cloth inside one cup. Ask for a cup that is empty. Check both conditions together: it must be a cup and have nothing inside. Swap the cloth and choose again. Invite your child to explain why the answer changed.
